Saludos — How to end an email in English
Music is a great Spanish teacher. First, because songs are short, it’s easy to replay them to repeat a line that you didn’t quite get (or that you really like alot!). The ease of repetition makes music great for learning pronunciation. In addition, lyrics have a conversational style. This makes hit songs a great source of everyday vocabulary….

Detrás de tus palabras
Detrás tus palabras by Maria Jose, “Behind Your Words,” is reminiscent of Madonna. Includes expressions like Parece que fue ayer apenas…, dar la vuelta and the verb platicar. Es buena esta canción. ¡Qué se diviertan!

Imparable
Imparable by Tommy Torres, “Unstoppable,” is a heart-felt song about a guy who feels imparable e indomable only to find that the woman’s heart is intocable e inalcanzable. ¡Qué se diviertan!

Fin del capítulo
Fin del capítulo by Tommy Torres, “End of the Chapter,” is a song about the disappointing ending of one chapter and the possible beginning of another…. Enjoy a great song and video and learn more about Spanish pronunciation. ¡Qué se diviertan!

Formas de amor
Formas de amor, from Cynthia’s new CD, Provócame, is, yes, provocative. What is she really saying when she calls love Un sentimiento con dos acentos? This is a fun song for sure. ¡Espero que te guste!

Aviones de Cristal
Aviones de cristal, Alex Ubago’s third CD, is fantastic as is this song. While the most obvious thing is the Spanish pronunciation, there are some beautiful metaphors — barcos de papel mojado and aviones de cristal, to name just two.

Si no te hubieras ido
Si no te hubieras ido sería tan feliz…. I really like this song, especially as done by Maná, although Marco Antonio Solis, who wrote the song, sings a really nice version as well. Si no te hubieras ido is a fantastic song and a great fun way to add to your vocabulary and learn new expressions. It’s great exposure to pronunciation as well. ¡Qué se diviertan!

Gracias a la vida
Gracias a la vida que me ha dado tanto…. Written and first sung by Violeta Parra, Gracias a la vida is a song filled with irony — Violeta Parra, the Joan Baez of Chilé, singing “Thanks to life, which has given me so much…” only two years before her suicide during the horrific regime of Pinochet. Sung by Joan Baez
